Organisation(s):
Manul Working Group (MWG)
Period:
November 2020 – December 2022
GOAL
Get new knowledge on manul distribution and reveal new conservation hot spots in the Central Kazakhstan.
Summary
The project aims to search for areas where manul population has specifically high density (population hot spots) in the Karaganda Province, Kazakhstan. The province comprises a solid part of the national species range. So far our knowledge on the manul distribution has an extensive gap here.
Two methods will be applied: (1) field research using trial cameras and (2) interviews with locals in steppe villages and farms. Main results will be (a) closing the gap in our knowledge on the manul distribution and (b) revealing new hot spots of the manul population and identify new priority areas for manul conservation.
